- Gulshat of the Kazakh vocal ensemble Bürler (= rungs) is coming to Europe next summer, together with her father and her brother. Her father is one of the old masters of the Altai region and he transmitted his knowledge to his children. The ensemble was founded in 1995 and has specialized as a performer of authentic Kazakh folk and traditional music, keeping the methods, tricks and peculiarities that are characteristic in the authentic tradition. However, they also sing stylised folk songs and works of contemporary authors. Sometimes, they accompany their songs with the jew's harp, an instrument that plays a dominant role in the music of Eastern Siberia.
With their first album, the three young folk singers and musicians from Kosh-Agash presented Kazakh songs and music in their entire beauty and peculiarities characteristic for this region of the Altai.
The Kazakhs' favorite musical instruments are the dömbra (a two-string long-necked lute) and the sibisgi (an open end-blown flute) as well as the jew's harp. Also worth mentioning is the tradition of improvisation contests called aytyspa that are held by the Kazakh singer-improvisers Akyny.
Songs of congratulation, patriotic, philosophic and lyrical songs as well as the narration of epics containing information about the history, the aesthetic ideas and the spirit of the Kazakh nation rate high with the Kazakhs.
