Born in 1957 in Gorno-Altaisk, where he attended the Academy of the Arts from 1973 to 1976.

His work as a painter, draftsman, stage-designer, and ceramics artist has been honored with a large number of exhibitions of "traditional Russian art" in regional museums all over Siberia. He is regarded as a master of his art and a proponent of the art-forms of the Altaic people. With his visionary outlook, Dykov places them in a new, modern world and has thus not only earned great respect in Russia but is also appreciated in other countries.

Sergey Dykov is interested in the ethnological connections between an ancient people and its mysticism and in the revival of shamanism. He demonstrates this in his drawings. He is also the author and editor of a volume of poetry (first published in 1994) richly illustrated with drawings.
